Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach stated.

“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with results so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
