Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is unclear and the US has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

Additional Developments

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said wreckage landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
