The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
